Half Term, Take One.....

....so called because some of this lot have been off school this week...and next week I get The Noise. For a week. To myself. What joy.

Still, Half Term Take One seems to have passed without many hitches.

The Singer and I spent a pleasant day in town doing a bit of this:

and even some of this:

I use the term 'pleasant' loosely. It was bucketing down with rain. We went to see the Football Fanatic at work and had to ask in five separate departments before we found her. When we did find her, she only had four minutes till her lunch break, so she kindly agreed to dine with us, which meant it cost me more than three times what it would have done normally and..... the winter coat that I especially went for was not in stock.

In addition, The Singer, towards the end of the afternoon turned a peculiar shade of green and looked like she was about to pass out, so I hailed a taxi and headed for home at extortionate cost, glibly ignoring the return bus ticket which I had purchased earlier.

The Fixer and The Peacemaker must be up for an Esther Williams role, as they have spent every day doing this:

and today, The Fixer had her very first go at this:

(One lump, several bruises and a few cuts).

The Football Fanatic has asked me to point out that she has not had the luxury of a half term break. She has either been at lectures or at work.

I wish I could say that her week has passed without incident. I shall gloss over the injury to the Trainee Menswear Manager and the man she had to interview as part of her Journalism studies, who apparently was shaking with fear and described her as 'a right little Jeremy Paxman'. I have not read the feedback from the lecturer who sat in on the interview, but I am reliably informed that she was 'terrier-like in her pursuit of answers'.

So I will leave you with this little gem.

At some point during her working week, the Football Fanatic was asked to move a box in the stockroom marked 'LINEN'.

Assuming it contained sheets, pillowcases and the like, she hoisted it effortlessly into the air........

Unfortunately, 'LINEN' was the name of this:

...'a 42 piece dinner service which would make a beautiful and stylish addition to any home'.

By all accounts the noise was unlike anything you've ever heard and she is now banned from Homeware.

You have no idea how eagerly I am waiting for next week.

That was a lovely post. Sounds like your half term cost you a bit of money though! And still another week to go with the other daughter!
Ours has just begun! We are about to visit daughter & grandsons for one week. Fortunately for all, the holidays coincided nicely this time. Doesn't always happen.

My two are off this coming week - I hope it's less 'eventful' than your half term last week!

Have a lovely time with The Noise.

Where do you get all those pictures? They really illustrate your funny stories. Life is never dull with your lot is it?

And why have we all got different half terms?

i love your images so much. they remind me of Peter and Jane and all the lovely illustrations that were around when i was a little girl. I used to think Department Stores were so exciting. I still do a bit.

Relax and have a Silk Cut

Oh, I'm so sorry for FF!

Tell her that once, when I was in high school and working in a grocery store, I couldn't find the place to scan the price on a large, flat box marked "deli". So, in search of the UPC code, I tipped it on its side, then turned it upside down.

It was, before I got hold of it, a beautifully arranged deli tray, for a party.

By the time I got through with it, it was a salad.

Please give her a hug for me.

What a nuisance it must be having two separate half terms. Kinda defeats the object if youve still gotta run some of them to school.

I'm sure it will be just as exciting! :)

Well, I'm sure Homeware wasn't as exciting as all the other departments she'll now be able to concentrate on!

Just the sort of thing that used to happen to me. I was so accident prone I lived in fear of having to dust the glassware in the dept store where I worked at 16.

Somehow I missed this (and you) earlier in the week ... how is The Singer feeling?

Poor Linens .. Poor FF!

It must be good to have girls to go shopping with, though. If my lads had to go anywhere with me, once they were teenagers, I had to walk on my own, in case they saw any of their mates!

I had two little greatgrandchildren for a couple of days this half term. I love them to bit but they are so ACTIVE!!!

It gives "term break" a whole new meaning. I hope your green daughter is feeling a perkier shade. Here from David's/Authorblog.

Oh my goodness I am so glad I only have two. And of the male variety. You must be absolutely poverty stricken by now.....

When you say football fanatic, are you speaking of soccer or the only football I've ever known in the USA...Pittsburgh Steeler football. I loved your post! Maybe football fanatic should see how many departments she could get banned from and how fast she could do it...LOL!!!

Have to say in FF's defence that no-one could have guessed it wasn't linen (?). How funny though.
Your first Half Term was certainly eventful. M xx
