Ordinary Time

This week the Church has moved into 'Ordinary Time' (the weeks in between the end of the Christmas season and the beginning of Lent). See the amount of stuff you're learning by calling round here every day?

Anyway, not much goes on in Ordinary Time. A few feast days, but we'll get to them later. (Wait till we get to Easter - it'll be like the Vatican website round here)!

So for everyone who thinks that there's not much going on at the moment, and especially if your kids are driving you crazy and you can't wait for them to grow up, watch this video to the end.
Maybe there's more going on than you think.

Gets me every time!

Well, that brought a tear or two...
wonderful thoughts for a mother of 3. These are truly the "good old days!"
Looking forward to your coming posts. I always enjoy learning more about the liturgical calendar. I did not grow up observing it, but as an adult I have come to treasure the way God has ordered our days, months, years, and lifetimes.

Thanks for sharing today,
Jen

Just found your blog through Rotten Correspondent's blog. Thank you for the gentle reminder to cherish every moment, not just the easy ones.

It was a wonderful surprise to find a note from you this morning, so I thought I would pop over and say hello.

Golly. This song/movie is sweet! By the end a tear trickled. Okay, two.
Sometimes I wish I could speed things up (like, say, when the kids will be old enough to help me do BIG jobs) and sometimes I try desperately to grasp onto them and not let go-hoping that by doing so, they will stay the same forever!

This reply is for Amrita. Ordinary time refers to that period in the church calendar when the Sundays are simply numbered (remember ordinal and cardinal numbers?) and so we get the first Sunday of OT, the second Sunday of OT etc. But, as the song points out, with small children around, nothing is "ordinary".

My children now range from 40 to 31. Yes, I miss those days she sings about, but I treasure the autumn of my years.
