Something For The Weekend

It's been a strange and rather lonely weekend here, all things considered. Not the I-need-your-pity sort of lonely, more just a distinct lack of people around the place.

There's always someone missing at the weekend because a couple usually stay at my mother's house on Fridays and Saturdays. They draw lots for it. This weekend there was only one there because the others had a better offer of a sleepover at their cousins house. Other kids, the chance of messing about till three in the morning and Hannah Montana on Nickelodeon.
Sorry, Nana, no contest

.
Added to this, the Football Fanatic left for a day in Blackpool at 8.30 yesterday morning. The Father of This Lot turned up, but he would rather slit his own throat with a blunt knife than spend a Saturday afternoon here while there is sun shining and pubs open, so he didn't hang about for long. I wasn't bothered. I just relieved him of his bank card before he left and went to Tesco, where I bought something for tea, three new outfits and a pair of shoes.

Consequently, there was no-one here to tell of my new found fame and fortune. I had a mention in The Daily Telegraph, no less, as one of the recommended 'blogging mums'. Actually, I'm quite glad The Father of This Lot wasn't here, since he was descibed in a national broadsheet as a 'feckless husband'. Family Affairs and I have been wondering whether there might be a book deal in it, which would keep us in a manner to which we're unaccustomed, and if so, would we buy more expensive shoes? Personally, I have already started. The shoes at Tesco cost £8, which is far more than the £3.99 I usually pay at Primark. I'm quite giddy with it, actually.

Today, after the 10 o'clock mass, I was informed that I had to be back at church at 2pm, to provide refreshments for the Whit Sunday gathering which involved all the other churches in the area. I helped to put the tables out, fill the urns, sort out biscuits and cakes, and at five to three I told Fr. J. I was going home.

Him: What do you mean, you're going home?

Me: Father, you are perfectly well aware that the last match of the season, on which the Premiership title hangs, kicks off in five minutes. I am going home.

Him: (Hissing, no less. From a priest) You won't even watch it anyway. You'll only pace about upstairs.

Me: That's as maybe. D'you think they'll win?

Him: I hope so.

He was only jealous, that he couldn't go home and watch it.
And he was right. I didn't watch it. Couldn't. I just paced about upstairs. The Football Fanatic was in a bar in Old Trafford. I don't think she watched much of it either. She was in the toilet every time she phoned me. It's on again tonight. I'll watch it then.
In the meantime.........oh, go on. Humour me!

Well, your lot won the Premiership. Again. Well done to them - it was a good fight this year. Just the Champion's League Final to go and the footie will be finished again until Aug/Sept.

ah yes, congrats on the telegraph, you were higher up the list than me! I chose to drink sparkling wine last night, for I'm sure that very soon all that will be in my fridge will be Kristal, bolly and stuff I have yet to dream of.
book deals here we come.
(I do hope you're getting the deep and cutting ironic tone??!!)

Don't let your new found fame go to your head...I think £8.00 on a pair of new shoes is a little too extravagant. x

Congratulations! I love the "feckless" part. :) Great word, feckless.

Your shopping trip sounded lovely. Tea and shoes, how can you miss?

I watched the highlights last night with Chef. He was gobsmacked I spent so much time in front of the TV, let alone watching the footie!

Well done girl – now your girls can be proud of YOU (as if they aren’t already).

A quiet house is bliss isn’t it – but you do miss ‘em too, don’t you? Tho that emotion tends to wear off about 10 minutes after they’re back….

Watched the footie here too (well, dodged in and out from glorious sunshine in garden which you have to make the most of round these parts). Hubby is a Chelsea fan. In the 70s I supported Leeds (Don Revie et al), but now I’m more of an interested observer since none of them are really what they say they are anymore, are they? Manchester, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool – it’s more like France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Argentina, Uruguay, Hawaii, Turks and Caucus, Galapagos, Easter Island, Falkland Islands…ooh, sorry, getting a little carried away now. I should go and take my pill. It’s time.

Anyway, glorious last goal of the season for the Reds. Enjoyed it. Congratulations. Now, about that offside rule..

Ps, am a great fan of Tesco's - love their cashmere and once bought my entire summer wardrobe there. Honest.

God, I should get out more.

Well done you on the telegraph thing. It was exciting to see my favourite blogs mentioned. I've been asked to do Practical Parenting - me! Ha ha!

I hope that when you get your bloggy book deal you don't forget your old bloggy friends who were there at the start!

Today Tesco, tomorrow John Lewis?

Hearty congratulations! I remember you when...

Congrats! Let me know how the book deal goes. I've heard there are writers in the world who actually make good money. I just haven't met any. :-)

As for your quiet weekend, I am struggling with jealousy at the moment . . .

More congrats...bask in it.
I have been in the book business on either the wholesaling or publishing ends most of my life. Nobody exactly does it for the riches, ahhh but the fame now that's another thing entirely.....

see, i noticed that the number of comments u were getting suddenly went up - that explains it. kudos

so, working mum is a man CITY fan and you're a man UTD fan - it's all so confusing. now rugby, that's something we can win at - and no red shirts either.

still knitting those oblongs for ya - i haven't forgotten. soon i'll have enough to keep me knees warm while i knit...

VERY impressive on the Telegraph. Wow.

And I'd read any book you happened to write. Truly.

Aaah! Primark! I love their little jackets. I've bought 2 now, which have been surprisingly well made, considering the price tag. Even so, I didn't buy them both at once, I hasten to add! Don't like to spoil myself.

I missed the Telegraph last week, because my husband was away. Congratulations on your mention! I am going to check the website, to see whether I can catch up with the article, there.

Sounds like a day for reading! I remember the first time my pal Audrey took me to Blackpool and showed me and my two boys "the beach"...THE BEACH? ROCKS? lol...my kids were less than impressed...Myrtle Beach being their idea of beaches...great post!

Congrats on the mention in the paper. That's pretty cool.

And congrats on the win. My husband plastered the trophy photo for the desktop wallpaper yesterday.

Eight pounds? EIGHT POUNDS? You are getting a little ahead of yourself aren't you? I mean, the book deal is bound to come (the blog is soooo deserving) but you shouldn't get ahead of yourself.
But then again, it was the feckless one's card. I think he owes you that much. So why not? And why only eight pounds then? lol

Congrats on the Championship. I humoured you - I watched it (and listened - one of the best bands ever).

I'm not too far from Blackpool. If you go up that way yourself we could meet up....?

Wow! Congrats on the Daily Telegraph. How exciting!! If my crappy little local newspaper mentioned my blog (good or bad), I'd be so excited that I'd write a 10,000 word post all in GIANT CAPS.

You're awesome. Can't wait for the book. Get writing, eh!
