Streets of London

Last week The Singer went on a day trip to London. (In that week I paid out £119 for school day trips....yes, you read it correctly....£119, but there you go. It is one of the downsides of having a large family. If anyone can let me know the upside......)

Anyway, it looked like it was going to be a good day - lunch in Covent Garden, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, boat trip on the Thames and a ride on the London Eye.

I bought her two disposable cameras and told her to take lots of photos. Remembering that we have had photographs from school trips developed before which are mainly head and shoulders shots of this lot and various friends and could have been taken in the back garden, I reminded her to get some scenery in the shots - you know, so that in twenty years we'd know where the photos were taken.

And that was where I made my mistake. The Singer did take lots of photos - 48 of them in fact - of scenery. She wasn't actually in any of them. I expressed my disbelief.

The Singer: You said to make sure I got some scenery.

Me: I meant scenery with you in it. You know, you with Big Ben in the background, you next to the sign that says Covent Garden.....

The Singer: Well, you didn't say that did you?

Fortnuately this conversation took place BEFORE I had the misfortune to spend upwards of £15 developing 48 photographs that we could have got free from Google Images.

Maybe I'll just get some from Google Images anyway and get The Fixer to Photoshop her in.

I used this picture because when I was a little girl my mother had placemats like this which I'm pretty sure came free with Daz. Or possibly Omo. And if you remember Omo, you are much older than you are letting on. Obviously, I have an extremely good memory which actually stretches back to before I was born.

You'll be telling me you remember Handy Andy next.

Well, that was weird.

I'll try again without the extra stuff in the comment.

Daz? Omo? Handy Andy?

Culture gap here!

I only recently learned that London has an Eye. Wasn't there when I visited.

Perhaps that shows my age--how long HAS it been there?

Ah my age ... I am sure if I were a Brit I would be old enough to know those things ... but you may if you please use one of my favorite lines ... when I tell people how long I am married I always say I got married BEFORE I was born ...

My mother had similar place mats too. I swear they were free with something!
Had to laugh at the photo predicament!

The Eye was put in for the Millennium, I think!

Unfortunately I seem to recall Omo, but I'm not sure where from. Handy Andy, I am relieved to note, strikes no chords at all... unless you actually meant Andy Pandy...

The only thing that strikes a bell with me is Andy Hardy. And NO, I AM NOT OLD ENOUGH TO REMEMBER ANDY HARDY. I saw him in reruns.

Though I did meet Mickey Rooney at a celebrity golf tournament when I was in college. :-)

Isn't that typical of an offspring? To take you literally when you least expect it?

I remember none of the old stuff of course. *wink*

Jackie - did you pick up the award at mine? I nudged you on the Chloe post I think but not sure if you got it.

Just know that you are an awesome blogger.

I can't remember the last time we had a 'film' developed. We just have a digital camera now and download the photos so no-one ever gets to see them now apart from us! I miss taking my holiday snaps into work. :(

That's why a digital camera is an investment I've finally worked out is worth doing - then they can snap away to their hearts content and delete them all aferwards Lx

Jackie .. when you get to the wordle site there's options.. choose Create. Then you should see a big box (it says paste in a bunch of text)you can paste in or type in words .. you can also link to your blog and let wordle use random words from the blog .. there's a link below the box you type in. then you click the little Submit button or the Go button (depending on which option you choose todo)below those spaces.

A wordle will be formed .. then you have options to change colors and text .. if all else fails you should ask the Fixer

Who is Handy Andy?
The singer had fun - at the end of the day, that is really all that matters.

:)

Here in Australia we can still buy Omo and Handy Andy. Good products. Andy Pandy is history though, and rightly so; he gave me the creeps. What a Wuss!

Culture and product gap here. But my sister used Omo in Nigeria in the 80s.

Glad Singer had a good time in London.

The awards are really nice

"Omo's washing, not only white, not only light, but bright!"

Yes?

No, not older than my years; my dad's idea of a nursery rhyme. Thanks, Dad.

I'm late so I am not going to comment on the fact I don't know what Omo is. :/
At least you will have lots of lovely pics of London!
