Mothering Monday

Things Your Children Are Bound To Say...And Your Likely Response

'But she started it'
'I don't care who started it - I'm finishing it!'

'I didn't do it'
'Well, someone must have done'

'Why can't I have it?'
'Because money doesn't grow on trees'

'That's so unfair!'
'Life's unfair'

'Daddy said I could have it'
'Then Daddy can pay for it'

'Johnny's mummy lets him do it'
'Good for Johnny's mummy'

'Why?'
'Because I said so'

Sound familiar?

Jackie, are you Irish????

So am I. :-)

Way back in the family tree - the Drawhorns . . .

But the Irish blood has been diluted by generations of Heinz-57 . . .

Happy Clover Day!

Yup Jackie, I'd say I've said all of them at one point of time or another.

Sometimes the world is such a wee place ;-)

Are we all singing from the same hymn sheet? How appropriate in this particular week! M :)

Very familiar & "I'm the only one in the whole school who isn't going/can't have it/ do it or whatever!

The "I didn't do it" thing drives me batty.
My other favorite is "not fair." I think that is Jack's motto. And "life is unfair" has quickly become mine!

Every one of them. Every one. *hangs head in shame*

And today too! :0/

YEP! I've used every single one of those on numerous occasions over the years -plus some others as well -and most of them have also usually been generously laced with a goodly number of expletive deleteds too!

All one-sixteenth of the Irish in me wishes you a Happy St. Paddy's Day. As for my favourite response to something our daughter says all the time: "I want I want I want". I say: "That's nice. And I want a million dollars."

"Because I said so!"

Lord, the times I've heard THAT one!:) Mother's explain things so clearly.:P

Here's a new one. We were discussing with our children that we need to bare good fruit like it says in the Bible. What did one of my children end up saying yesterday?

"Mom, he's baring rotten fruit!"

All of them, Yes! And how about this one
'I don't want to go to school'
'Well you have to'
'Why?'
'Because if you don't the'll send mummy to prison'!!!!!
Did I really say that?!

Jackie are you Jewish? LOL .. I swear its universal non demoninational .. I believe when you have a child you begin to automatically say these things .. while I have no kids, I was one and I swear my late mother said ALL of those at one point or another.

Adrienne said...

How about, "if Bobby jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?"

Laura Paxton said...

yes, most of those sound WAY too familiar to me....

I think you've been spying at my house! I find myself saying all those things my mom said to me and I cringe every time.

Jennie said...

Said the first one today, the third one yesterday and the last one possibly every day, I am such a cliche!

Noncommital answers like these are our daily life savers. I have learned the hard way never to give a clever answer like "when you are 18 years old" - they remember! :-)

LOL yea..but she really DID start it and lifes unfair and its not my fault LOL!

Wishing you a Holy Easter:)
